The year is 1963. There is trouble brewing in Cyprus. The Greek citizens who live in Konstantinoupolis, are being deported, back to Greece and their property is taken over.Fanis and Saime are falling in love. Bad timing. Fanis likes to cook and Saime likes to dance. To get her to dance, he gives away his secret ingredient for the perfect meatballs; he whispers in her ear: "cinnamon". Love, despite the world falling apart around them, recognizes no political, religious or ethnic barriers. Saime, comes to the railway station, to say goodbye to Fanis and promises: "to come to Greece and visit him." Tasos Mpantis is outstanding, as the bigger than life grandfather, who influences young Fanis and commands the respect of all for his wisdom.Upon his arrival, to Greece, Fanis, bitterly observes: "The Turks deported us because we were Greeks and the Greeks accepted us like we were Turks."
